Background Check for Interns?

Sometimes I read a news article and see something that contradicts my own personal experience. Reading this quote from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was one of those times.

“I think we should make sure that everybody knows what they are being subjected to, but I don’t know that it means that we have to background check every intern that comes into the Capitol,” [House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)] continued, answering a question about potentially implementing background checks for all interns because the suspected spy reportedly placed an intern in Swalwell’s office.

In 1995 I was an intern for Representative Barbara Cubin (R-WY). One of the steps that happened before I was accepted as an intern was a background check conducted by the FBI. It is doubtful this policy was canceled, especially after 9/11. Background checks are performed for official interns. Maybe this intern was "special" because they worked for the Chinese Communist Party? Was the intern a cut-out for a Congressman that was caught in a honey trap?

The Chinese spying in the US Government is well known, and nothing new. Just a few years ago reports of a Chinese spy working for Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) for 20 years, became public. Even high level Chinese Communist Party officials are bragging that they have people "At the top of America's core inner circle of power & influence".

Important parts of the US Government are owned and operated by the Chinese Communist Party.
