A List of Some of My Adventures

I was watching The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) with Ben Stiller and it reminded me of all the adventures I have had. Here is an incomplete list. This is mostly a reminder to myself that I have so much more to blog about.

  • Snowmobiled on a glacier, on a volcano in Iceland. Snæfellsjökull.

  • Slept on a police department roof and beach in St Martin between two hurricanes.

  • Flew across the Caribbean in a Dutch military cargo plane.

  • Became an e-Resident of Estonia.

  • In Finland I met with pastors from restricted counties.

  • Swam with Canadians in Panama.

  • Flew to very remote villages in Indonesia.

  • Eaten chicken in grass huts at remote airports in Indonesia.
  • Stayed in Morocco during Ramadan.

  • Fought over 20 structure fires. Once I ran out of air in a burning attic.

  • Was responsible for patient care in an ambulance in route to the hospital.

  • Walked 40 miles in England, exploring castles, the countryside and walked across Paul McCartney's yard.

  • Sailed in 7 bodies of water.

  • Worked in the US House of Representatives as the youngest systems administrator at the time.

  • Lived in Germany, Estonia, and Spain.

  • Surfed the Gold Coast in Australia.

  • Used a mirror to signal a boat for pickup from a small island.

  • Slept at the Russian Embassy without permission. 

  • Taught tactics and shooting by instructors from the following groups, Delta Force (College ROTC Instructor), USMC (CQB), Israeli Defense Force (Anti-Terrorism), Ada County Sheriff's Office (Active Shooter Response).

  • Conducted an early morning security patrol in a kibbutz south of Jerusalem.

  • Taken the train on 4 contents.

  • Heli-hiked in the Canadian Rockies

  • Flown in light aircraft, landing at unpaved runways, in four countries.

  • Piloted a helicopter.

  • Briefly flew a 12 passenger plane in Indonesia.

  • Had to call for a rescue while boating off the coast of Croatia.

  • Helped recover the bodies of two dead people.

  • Been to 42 countries on five continents.

  • I can start a camp fire with friction or a spark.

  • Walked out of a police department with over $15k worth of equipment, and I was not stopped.

  • Talked my way through several military checkpoints.

  • I have rounded up cattle, and branded them. 

  • Rappelled from many structures including football stadiums, three story buildings, climbing towers, and large cliffs.

  • Taught climbing and rappelling at summer camp in Upstate NY.

  • Learned to ski in Germany.

  • Taken a course in how to survive being kidnapped, and another course on how to avoid being kidnapped.
